Pokedex Entry #028: Sandslash is a Ground Type Pokemon. It evolves from Sandshrew.
Sandslash's body is covered by tough spikes, which are hardened sections of its hide. Once a year, the old spikes fall out, to be replaced with new spikes that grow out from beneath the old ones.

Metal claw as well
I've got one with Earthquake
Metal claw can give more DPS but, mud shot is better... what is the reason? ._.
@Matias Bautista
Look at W/ STAB. It's a status based on attack with same type of pokémon.
Has anyone developed this decently? (i.e. past 1500). There's not a ton of ground and I really like SS. I know it's not GOOD but... is it a total waste??
I find that Sandslash is useful (with the right moveset) as training up gyms if you want to put a slightly higher CP fire pokemon in first. This basically applies to just about every pokemon though, not really unique to SS. I'd personally prefer Marowak if you are going to build up a pure ground pokemon. Not necessarily better, I just like him more.
@Anonymous: Sandslash is definitively superior to Marowak as a pure ground 'mon from a game mechanics standpoint. Its stat rankings are universally better (with a max CP over 600 better), and mud shot has nearly the same DPS as mud slap but twice the EPS, allowing for earthquake (as the highest DPS ground charge move) nearly twice as often. Assuming perfect execution, Sandslash's first earthquake will resolve after 12.45 seconds, for a total of 228 damage w/STAB. Marowak's will resolve after 20.4 seconds for a total 336 damage. That gives an overall average DPS of 18.31 for Sandslash and 16.47 for Marowak (Sandslash 11% higher damage output overall), with Sandslash hitting the high damage output of earthquake sooner (better against weaker 'mon that are KO with one charge move and better on attack where one can fire off the charge move first and be free to dodge the opposing moves sooner and more often) and better attack, defense, and hp at the same power level.
I have a CP1850 HP111 with metal claw and earth quake. Dude is a beast!
I'm just about to power up my ss as I need more defenders! He has the perfect defence move set ( mc/eq) as well as 100% iv.I'm only level 33 ATM, but am looking forward to seeing how well he does in gyms!
